Portsmouth wanted to improve their ability to anticipate the challenges coming with future sea levels, and begin the process of addressing the expected impacts on their municipal properties and other identified sensitive areas. To that end, as part of this project they:
- Created a series of inundation maps
- Collected relevant adaptation strategies
- Provided city staff, boards, and community members with opportunities to discuss strategies
- Developed adaptation recommendations for their Master Plan
The city launched a public outreach and education effort in coordination with the Master Plan update process. A city website is available to raise awareness among citizens regarding their flood risk and steps the City is taking to reduce that risk.
