Coastal municipalities are on the front-lines and need to accelerate their efforts to adapt their land use laws, infrastructure, policies, and programs to these changing environmental conditions. This site has information on how coastal communities from the Bay of Fundy to Long Island Sound are doing so.

Thanks to support from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) Climate and Societal Interactions Program, from 2011-2013, the Northeast Regional Ocean Council and the Gulf of Maine Council supported efforts to:

  1. Help communities in the Gulf of Maine reduce the vulnerability of their built and natural environment to the effects of sea level rise and/or climate change
  2. Document and better understand steps communities are already taking in this direction
